San Diego

The last day before the ride starts. Had a very nice breakfast at the Nickel Cafe in downtown Los Angeles (I had the maple bacon doughnut and the BBQ pork hash, bacon doughnut: yum, hash: so-so and a little cold) also walked by the fancy Caltrans District 7 Building designed by Thom Mayne, very industrial looking. Neat bicycle shaped bike racks though.

Hans, Rachael and Andrew drove all of the way from Manhattan Beach to have breakfast with us. What a wonderful surprise, thank you Vandenbergs, I promise that Cris and I will try to visit before the end of the year.

The train ride to San Diego was fine, but when we arrived we found out Jerry and Michele's bags didn't. The bikes were there and my box, but only one of J&M's Four boxes arrived. We passed some time in the Gaslight District eating fish tacos at the Tin Fish, then rode to the hotel. I also made friends with some of the bike taxi drivers who took time to check out the Hunqapillar.

Terrible weather today, cold and very windy with 40mph gusts. Rain too, but none during our short ride to the Hotel.

Amtrak delivered the missing luggage around 7:00 pm so we're good to go tomorrow. Planned start: about 8:30 am.

Tomorrows target: Alpine. Forecast for snow in the mountains tonight and rain in San Diego tomorrow morning, wish us luck.
