Day 25 - Langtry to Del Rio

Didn't talk much about Langtry in the post for yesterday, but Langtry was the home of Judge Roy Bean, the self proclaimed "Law West if the Pecos". Roy Bean was a saloon owner who was later authorized as a Justice of the Peace and enforced the law in this region. Although famous as a "hangin' judge" there is apparently no evidence that he ever sentenced anyone to that fate. He did, however, sentence horse thieves to forfeit all of their belongings and banish them into the desert. Just as fatal I suppose.

Unfortunately, we didn't have a chance to visit downtown Langtry. Jerry had some flat tire issues in the morning and we got a late start, forcing us to pass on our planned early morning visit.

When we left town we passed a sign warning us of crosswinds, ha! I wish, more headwinds today, but we had a goal, chili dogs in Comstock so we pushed on.

Before Comstock, however, the Pecos. Much larger than I expected. Stopped for a quick look, but no time to dawdle, chili dogs await and, quite frankly, five days of constant headwinds have sapped any desire to explore. We all just want to get to Del Rio for our rest day.

Comstock: diner closed, owner in San Antonio, lunch of pre-made convenience store sandwiches, Dr. Pepper and Funyons.

For one brief moment, between Comstock and Del Rio, a tailwind. Three miles of bliss. After that a harrowing crossing of the Amistad Reservoir on the exceeding long, shoulder less highway 90 bridge and we're done.

Del Rio = root beer floats at the DQ, a wonderfully clean and comfortable motel room, and a rest day. Ahhhhh.
