Day 29 - Camp Wood to Lost Maples State Park

Today included three pretty good climbs, steeper than anything we'd seen previously, over 10%, which is pretty steep with the loads were carrying.

After the first and longest climb we were rewarded with a tasty lunch at Mama Chole's in Leakey followed by home made root beer. Yum!

Jerry's tire somehow went flat during lunch, we suspect a bad patch on an old puncture, so repairing that was our first chore after eating. Second chore: more climbing, up and over two little passes, not too high, but steep.

After the second we found a steep, straight descent. 46-mph, even with the wind resistance of the bags. Now that's fun!

At this point it's only a few miles to the campground in Lost Maples SP so we stopped at a little grocery outside Vanderpool for some dinner fixin's. Hot dogs and sauerkraut, and instant grits and pancakes for tomorrow's breakfast. The best thing about this store, other than the fact that it's the only one around for miles, was the bulletin board. Lots if interesting reading there. the worst thing: no beer, it's a dry precinct.

Quickly stopped at the Texas Motorcycle Museum, but it was closed. Only open on weekends, bummer. Lots of Motorcycles here, good roads for it. Next time I'm here it'll be on a motorcycle instead.

Camping at Lost Maples: uneventful.
