Day 36 - Buescher State Park to Brenham

Another uneventful day. Jerry found a turtle in the road and, worried for its safety, picked it up and carried it safely across the road. Hopefully it doesn't change it's mind and wander back.

We found La Grange before too long and seeked out Weikel's Bakery, which supposedly has the best kolachis in Texas. They were just okay in my opinion. I also had a couple of jalapeƱo pigs in a blanket. The kolachis and pigs we had in Kerrville were better.

Our plan starting the day was to get to Navasota, but by the time we reached Round Top for lunch it was clear we would not make Navasota before nightfall so we diverted off course, with little or no mileage penalty, to Brenham. At Round Top we found only a portable pizza oven available, all other services were closed, but the pizzas were tasty and there was plenty of Dr. Pepper. They said they only show up on Mondays because all the other places are closed. Round Top is and antiquer's paradise. Several times a year the town hosts antique fairs attracting upwards of 50,000 visitors, quite a surge for a town of 500.

We stopped for root beer floats in Brenham before finding a hotel at Must be Heaven ice cream parlor. They were closed, but the staff who were cleaning up made us our treats, to go of course.
